- If you’re susceptible to ingrown hairs, have fair or sensitive skin, or if you have acne, disregard this section.
- For most men, shaving against the grain generally means shaving upward. This technique allows you to get an even closer, smoother shave.
- If you’re using quality products, such as PRZMAN grooming products, they can easily be reactivated by dabbing water on your face.
- Take the razor and use your free hand to stretch the skin while converting your handle to a 90-degree angle.
- Next, take a pass going with the grain (downward) and then a pass going against the grain (upward) as you stretch the skin.
- Be careful around your mustache. Use your free hand to pull your nose into a flying pig position and move the razor very slowly.
- If you’re going over the neck area again, take your time and go slow.
- If you aren’t used to going against the grain and you still want to get a closer shave, try shaving cross grain (taking horizontal passes across the skin rather than going up or down).
PRZ TIP:
When I first learned to shave I didn’t know anything about going with or against the grain. I later realized that I was only shaving upward, meaning against the grain, and my skin got used to it from the start. However, it’s always better to commence your shave going with the grain, but if your skin is used to it or isn’t too sensitive, going against the grain is fine.
