Words can make or break us. It’s all in the intention we put behind those words. Here’s how to use certain words to your advantage, while allowing the people around you to feel appreciated.

 

1. When It Isn’t Expected

Show your thanks when it’s least expected. When you become accustomed to a task that is generally done for you, step outside the situation and throw in a thank you. This gives encouragement.

 

2. Respond When Being Thanked

When someone thanks you for something, instead of saying “you’re welcome” or “no problem” say “it’s my pleasure” or “the pleasure is all mine.”

 

3. Don’t Give An Average Response

When someone asks how you’re doing, instead of saying “good” change your state and the person in front of you and say “I’m fantastic” or “I’m excited for the day” or “I’m great, how about you?” Always give the other person a big smile. How do you think they’ll perceive you?

 

4. When Someone Asks For Your Time

When someone says they need to talk to you for a few minutes, instead of saying “yeah no problem” say “certainly, when would you like to meet?” And do not glance down at your watch like you are counting seconds.

 

5. Be Positive

When someone in a work setting asks if you think the company can make its goals, instead of saying “yes” say “absolutely.” The strength of a leader shines through in being mindful and decisive. Give a firm positive answer to give strength to your opinion.
