01 Sep HOW TO GET SOME F#@CKING SLEEP AS A DAD
You get up with the rising sun, leave with coffee in hand, and you’re the last man standing at work. You might fantasize in rush hour on the drive home about how you’d love to dissolve into the deep comforts of the couch, clutch the remote, and ride an endless wave of channel surfing. Fat chance. You’re a father now and your evening time is divided amongst chasing kids and helping with last minute book reports, all while giving your wife both ears to talk into. You put in a full day, every day. So how do you get the rest you need?
1. Have a routine
Find a natural rhythm in the routine. It starts with getting your kids on a consistent schedule. Giving the kids a set dinner-bath-bed schedule will fill your life with more sleep. Just don’t forget to bend the rules every once in a while and take them out for dessert.
2. Always wind down
You can’t go from 60 to 0 in seconds flat. Carve out some time in the evening to decompress and connect with your lover. Your relationship will benefit from joining together for conversation about each other’s day.
3. Avoid falling asleep on the couch
This one completely affects the quality of sleep. Quality over quantity, remember that saying? It applies to sleep too. Get yourself under the covers when the eyelids start flickering.
4. Find your vices safely
Herbal teas can help you feel blissed out before bed. So can a warm soak in the tub.
5. Make a list
Jot down all the things you want to get accomplished the next night after the kids go to sleep. You must bring add organization to your life if you want to increase your hours in dreamland.
