HOW TO BEAT SPRING ALLERGIES

Oh, the trees have begun to feel quiet amorous this time of year, spreading pollen across our windshields and wreaking havoc on our noses. It can even be difficult to see the vibrant colors of spring from behind the teary bloodshot eyes, but we still crave laying in the grass and jump at the chance to eat, drink, and be merry outside.

So, we fight back and claim control of our senses. There are a lot of natural remedies that are quite effective against seasonal allergies. It is a smart idea to get a jumpstart and begin these natural remedies before you are really overcome with Hay Fever. That way the body can adjust to the new input.

1. Local Honey

Within a 100 mile radius would be a safe bet. If you consume honey from the region in which you live, it has properties that slowly accustom your body to allergens in the area.

2. Nettle Tea

You can find bulk nettles at your local natural food store. Add a handful of dried nettles to boiled water and let steep for a good 3 hours. Add lemon and local honey to taste. You can drink this concoction daily.

3. Tumeric

This golden goddess is an excellent natural anti-inflammatory. You can add this to your local honey to pack a double punch.

4. Nettie Pot and Salts

Dating back to early Ayurvedic and Yogic traditions, this is a wonderful trick to relieve nasal congestion.

Allergies are caused mostly by inflammation and a weakened immunity. Therefore, anything that boosts immunity will fight seasonal allergies. Other potent options are:

  • Omega-3s
  • Vitamin C
  • Parsley Tea
  • Reishi Mushrooms
  • Elderberry Syrup

Spring is also a great time to drop dairy from your diet. Milk and other dairy products are high in calcium, which is good for bones, but they are also high in lactose, casein, and other nutrients that the body will sometimes reject. In addition, these ingredients can make allergies worse. Foods that are known to commonly cause allergic reactions are dairy products, wheat, corn, soy and peanuts. Eliminate these foods from your diet if you experience any allergic symptoms, and gradually bring them back into your diet one at a time. This way, you’ll be able to determine which foods you’re allergic to. Once you find it, eliminate that food from your diet altogether.

Dairy products can also weaken the immune system. When the immune system becomes weak, it causes an overreaction to certain allergy triggers like foods, pollen or dust, and this can make allergy symptoms worse. Be sure to drink plenty of water to continue flushing your system. A detox prior to the spring months can be especially helpful in prepping your body for this time of year.
