Why Men Should Drink Tea: Add Tea To Your Diet

Tea Main

Are you a coffee junkie? Does it get you out of the bed in the morning and get you through your afternoon meetings? Well, it’s time to say goodbye., and embrace the tea trend. Not only does tea contain just enough caffeine (say goodbye to the jitters) but it’s also much better for you. Not to mention tea is less of a hassle. No more grinding beans and brewing coffee—just add a tea bag to some hot water and BAM!—you’re ready for your day.

Now that cold season is here, a cup of tea with honey could be the best thing for your ailing throat. Plus, studies have suggested that antioxidants in the tea plant fight cancer, heart disease, weight gain, arthritis, osteoporosis, cavities and even help build a stronger immune system.  Best of all, unlike coffee, tea rehydrates your body and quenches your thirst at the same time. PRZman recommends using a Breville One-Touch Tea Maker, Le Creuset 1.8 Quart Whistling Kettle, Cuisinart Tea Steeper, or the Musée de Thé Glass Teapot.

Here’s a quick primer on the world of teas:

  • Black tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which are rolled and fermented, then dried and crushed. The leaves are fully oxidized. Black tea is known to have a slightly bitter taste. It also contains the most caffeine, around 40 milligrams per cup. Coffee has about 50 milligrams per cup.
  • Oolong Tea is fermented for a shorter time than black tea, which makes it less bitter. It contains about 30 milligrams of caffeine per cup.
  • Green Tea is a lighter tea also made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Green tea leaves are dried and heat-treated right after they’re picked, causing the fermentation process to stop. It contains around 25 milligrams of caffeine per cup.
  • White Tea leaves are picked very young, making it very mild and low in caffeine (around 15 milligrams per cup).
  • Herbal Tea is actually not a tea, but instead dried fruit, flowers and herbs and contains no caffeine.  An example of herbal tea called Echinacea is thought to support the immune system and fight colds.

PRZman recommends black tea to the caffeine addicts. Try an herbal peppermint tea in the afternoon for its minty taste and digestive benefits. Instead of caffeine, it contains menthol, which helps to relieve headaches, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. We like Yogi Purely Peppermint. If you like your tea with milk, then try Earl Grey, such as Zhena’s Gypsy Tea Earl Greater Grey.

PRZman Tip: Black teas should steep for three minutes in boiling water. Green and white teas should steep in cooler steamed water for two minutes. Be sure to remove the tea bag when it is finished stepping. If you leave the leaves in too long it will make it bitter.

So gentlemen put your kettle on and enjoy your warm cuppa!!!
